In Idaho, Biorefinery Partners had advanced to a second round with the Department of Energy loan guarantee program for cellulosic ethanol production. The Shelley, Idaho plant would produce 18 Mgy of ethanol from straw from barley, rice, wheat, corn stover, and switchgrass.
Idaho has been an early leader in biodiesel, but ethanol has been slow in gaining traction in the Northwest. Washington and Idaho have 10 E85 stations between them.
