Lung Association, petroleum marketers and corn growers unite to promote E85 in Illinois
In Illinois, the City of Northbrook has been chosen as the launching pad for a statewide brand promotion of E10 and E85, mounted by the The Illinois Corn Marketing Board (ICMB), the Ethanol Promotion and Information Council (EPIC), the American Lung Association of Illinois and the Illinois Petroleum Marketers Association.
In other E85 promotion news, General Motors is kicking off its E85 Fall Fuel for Thought Tour. GM will engage in promotion and biofuels mythbusting.
The Tour picks up from the E85 Days of Summer Tour, which was an 85-day promotional tour for the GM flex-fuel vehicles. GM continues to push hard on promotion of E85 and flex-fuel vehicles as an alternative to the imposition of stricter CAFE (corporate average fuel economy) standards which is under consideration for inclusion in this year’s energy bill. GM’s position is that adoption of E85 will achieve the same emissions result as revisions to CAFE standards, but result in far lower costs for automakers.
A new print directory of E85 stations has been released, available from Energy Independence Publications, and listing more than 1000 outlets and available for $9.95 in a glove-box size. Several online directories of biofuels have recently emerged, such as Nearbio.com and nearE85.com.
