Helsinki buses to convert to biodiesel; Scandinavia increases its commitment to biofuels
In Finland, six Helsinki buses converted to biodiesel; the conversion will increase to 60 public buses this fall and ultimately 700 buses out of the total 1400 bus fleet by 2010.
Recently, President Luis Ignacio Lula de Silva of Brazil visited Helsinki to extend trade relations between Brazil and Finland and promote biofuels. Scandinavia has been a global leader in biofuels adoption and research with companies such as Scania (buses) and Novozymes (cellulosic ethanol research) active globally. Norway’s Statoil recently signed an agreement with Brazil’s Petrobras to expand biofuels trade.
