BP Australia brings ethanol to 100th station; says will expand to 150, and double ethanol sales by early 2008

E85 is coming to Spokane, and the owners of the new station project a discount for E85 as much as $1.20 off the price of gasoline. Washington and Idaho have 10 E85 stations.

Ford Motor calls for accredidation of biofuels: says enviro-friendly biofuels need recognition

Ford has called for the accreditation of biofuels to stimulate production of environmentally-friendly biofuels, as well as more tax incentives to encourage use of the fuels. Ford executives stressed the need to avoid biofuels that cause deforestation or a shock to local prices for staple foods.

A new Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) study examines biofuel opportunities in Barbados, Jamaica and Guyana. The report discussed the 6 million gallon ethanol target for Barbados, to cover domestic needs, which could be produced from sugar cane.

Senegal to pursue $2 billion oil refinery, biofuel power project

South Africa considers pilot project to determine jatropha feasibility

In South Africa, the Ministry of Agriculture is considering an agreement with the Central Energy Fund. The agreement would establish a commercial-level pilot project to determine the economic feasibility of jatropha.  Earlier, the North West provincial government lost a R10-million investment in Mafikeng Bio-diesel when the project folded due to the lack of permits.

Ethanol beats gasoline in Oslo-to-Paris fuel cost trial

In France, Ford has completed a fuel cost trial with three Focus C-Max cars, driving them from Oslo to Paris using diesel, E85, and gasoline.
Diesel proved the most cost effective, with a fuel cost of €0.07 per km; E85 cost €0.09/km and gasoline cost €0.11/km.

Manitoba launches energy loan program to stimulate biofuels investment

In Canada, the province of Manitoba announced an energy loans program to stimulate development of biofuel and wind projects. The loans will have a maximum of $1.05 million with up to 25-year terms, administered by the Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation.

Australian project tests sorghum as sugar cane rotation crop in Queensland for ethanol potential
