A University of Illinois crop expert predicts corn yields of 180 bushels an acre, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture is projecting a 13.3 billion bushel corn harvest, up 27% over last year. The USDA is projecting overall national corn yields in the high 140s.
Projections for Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska are for production totals of 2.54 billion bushels, 2.34 billion and 1.51 billion respectively.
Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska lead the nation in corn ethanol production, with nearly 6.5 billion gallons of capacity, or more than 50% of current US production capability.
