California Ethanol & Power announces $750 million investment plan in sugarcane ethanol

California Ethanol & Power announced plans for five sugar ethanol plants in Imperial County. Each plant will produce 50 million gallons ethanol, commercial grade carbon dioxide, and 50 megawatts of power. The project is expected to cost $750 million and employ 750 people. The first plant will commence production in 2010.

CE&P previously announced it had engaged Washington Group International (WNG) to provide initial engineering support for the project. Batley Farms, LLC will grow the 4,000 acres of seed cane that will supply the 30,000 acres of sugarcane required for CE&P’s first plant.
