Petrobras to commence cellulosic ethanol production by 2011

Petrobras, the Brazilian state oil company, announced that it expects to commence cellulosic ethanol production in 2011 and begin large-scale production by 2015. Cellulosic ethanol research has been primarily conducted in the US, but Brazil has a formidable global lead in ethanol production. Cargill executives have recently suggested that Brazil will have an ethanol glut if it does not stimulate exports.
