A Day in the Life of Biofuels, 2011: Grand Prize image

November 23, 2011 |

GRAND PRIZE: An Indonesian woman prepares dinner on her Protos, Plant Oil Cookstove built by the Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances Group (BSH) in Munich, Germany. Today she is using pure jatropha oil, which her husband receives in addition to cash when he brings seeds to a local oil press near Purwadi, Indonesia. However, the highly efficient cookstove technology runs on any type of vegetable oil, including used cooking oils.  BSH designed the stove for people living in developing countries to ensure their access to a safe, clean cooking technology made with locally available fuels.
