Thailand revives pipeline plan in bid to become biofuels, oil hub for SE Asia

October 12, 2011 |

In Thailand, the government is contemplating reviving a 20-year old plan to build a 180 kilometer trans-peninsula rail, road and pipeline link between the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea that would help the country become a biofuel and oil trading hub for Southeast Asia. Ethanol production capacity is expected to boom to 9 million liters per day if the plan comes through, up from the current 3 million liters of capacity currently and the 1.5 million liters of domestic daily demand.
