Louisiana senator says US using wrong model, excluding algae

August 29, 2011 |

In Louisiana, U.S. Sen. David Vitter said “Congress has been using exactly the wrong model,” and contended that, with algae, “we stack up very favorably to ethanol, which has been very politically driven and is dependent on that huge subsidy. This process can compete and can win with no special favors.”

Vitter criticized the decision-making process for US government research on renewable energy, while touring Aquatic Energy’s algal demonstration facility in Lake Charles. The Lake Charles-based company produces algal oil and meal.
