Bioplastics from cow waste

August 29, 2011 |

In Canada, University of Alberta researcher David Bressler and his team have developed a bioplastic from cows.  Using waste products that now cost meat processors $30/tonne to dispose of, Bressler can make an odorless, opaque, brown powder that can be cast, with the ability to vary strength depending on  the number of chemical steps involved.

Bressler reports, “We’ve been talking with a couple of the big auto parts manufacturers in Canada that sell globally. We’re sending them materials and they’re testing it out and giving us feedback on how to modify it.”
