Brazil will need to import ethanol through 2015

August 10, 2011 |

In Brazil, the director of the director of the Brazilian Infrastructure Center told a conference that the country is expected to need ethanol imports for the next four years due to backwards gasoline policy.

Despite sugar and ethanol production costs rising 38% during the past five years, because Petrobras has not raised gasoline prices since 2009, ethanol producers were not able to pass on the price increase. As a result, their ability to invest in expansion was seriously limited.

July imports reached 47.7 million liters, down from 59.6 million liters last month and almost nothing during the same period last year.
