Petrol of the Sea: India's Sea6 Energy aims for seaweed biofuels

In India, startup Sea6 Energy is working on developing seaweed as a feedstock for biofuels.  Sea6 has a provisional patent filed for a marine polymer mesh structure to anchor seaweed for aquafarming, and is now working to find a microbe that can work in seawater to convert the sugars to ethanol or other petroleum products.  According to the article, seaweed has the potential of 100 tonnes of mass per hectare compared to 30 tonnes for sugarcane.
