Celanese patents acetic acid to ethanol conversion process

In Texas, four inventors and Celanese International have received US Patent 7,863,489, for their novel process to produce ethanol from acetic acid using a platinum and tin based catalyst. Celanese owns the world’s largest acetic acid plant in the Pasadena area near Houston, as well as a major acetic acid plant in Nanjing, China.
