Helios Scientific to build cellulosic ethanol demo plant in Pennsylvania

October 18, 2010 |

In Pennsylvania, Helios Scientific announced a demonstration-scale cellulosic ethanol project in Curwensville that will produce 30,000 gallons of ethanol per year from one ton of waste material per day.

Helios said that it expects to fund up to 10 commercial-scale facilities in Pennsylvania, commencing in 2011, following completion of the successful demonstration of the technology.

The plant will utilize waste wood, switchgrass, and corn cobs, and is eligible to receive up to $2 million in assistance from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, using funds that were originally intended for the abandoned Swam Biomass project.
